Unreal Tournament's netplay coding is much improved since Unreal. Lag was a major problem for many people in Unreal's deathmatches, but all of those problems are resolved in UT. UT, unlike Tribes (much of the time), is a extremely fast paced game--in a botmatch, I was lucky to live for 30 seconds! The level's are usually in close quarters, so there's not that far to travel between enemy bases (CTF), but there's a good number of places to get turned around in.
Assault is a particularly nice mod to play. For instance, in one assault level, your team starts out in a chopper flying above a speeding train. You must jump out of the chopper--being sure to avoid MISSING the train--and having you and your team make your way to the front of the train to take control of it.

That same bug back from Unreal is still here. On platforms, the texture covering the floor is sometimes invisible, appearing as if you'll fall down if you walk over it. This problem is only found when using Direc3D, but the OpenGL support is still primitive. Hopefully be the time UT is officially out, they will have this problem fixed. Of course, if you have a 3Dfx card, Glide support is included, which should look very nice indeed.

How could you have a multiplayer only game without having CTF? UT's CTF is beyond anything I've ever experienced. It's incredibly fast paced--you never even have a second to take your hand off the house and rest. Do, and your dead before you know what hit you! UT's CTF missions involve a maze of corridors and hallways which lead you form base to base. There's not many large open rooms...but of course I still havne't played all the CTF missions. I did find it sometimes difficult to distinguish the difference between my teamates and the enemy though. Everyone stays moving so quickly, each player only has specks of red or blue on them that tell them apart. Good thing there's no team damage, or I'd be fraggin my teammates just as much as the enemy!

Of course Epic couldn't leave out all the wonderous visuals UT packs. They're all here...the gorgeous volumetric lighting, textures, and the rest of the works. The water effects of UT are just incredible. It's amazing how Epic put all this detail into a game, and yet it still runs perfectly smooth in 1024x768. Unfortunantly, in these JPEGS, I couldn't possibly use maximum quality on them, if so, they would be 800KB each! But they're still great quality.
