So the new Devil May Cry demo is out. Capcom appears to be trying to redeem the series, especially after firing the entire studio that made the original.|
I make no secret about my disdain for Capcom's endeavors; they've killed a number of franchises by running them into the ground, and Devil May Cry suffered this; the first was stellar, the second was annoying, the third was a steaming pile of repetitious garbage. When I am playing an action game, the last thing I should be doing is finding a spot with respawning enemies merely to grind for loot trying to get powerups. Leave that to the RPG's and MMO's, please.
So... Devil May Cry 4. Graphically, it looks stellar, with color palettes and lighting a lot closer to the original than either of the other sequels got. Let's face it, visually, 2 and 3 were nothing but brown-tones and red-tones, while 1 and now hopefully 4 used a beautiful color palette that was a feast for the eyes.
The new Devil Bringer weapon? I like it. Part of the annoyance of building up combos in earlier DMC games was managing to get enough enemies nearby to do so. This makes it a bit easier - finish one enemy off and just reach for the next.
Sum total? I'll have to wait and see. The annoyance of awkward fixed-camera angles is still present, and even the first Devil May Cry suffered from the occasional badly placed camera.
