HomelanFed also has an interview regarding Prince of Persia: Warrior Within today. Focus seems to be on the combat system. First the controls:
Bertrand Helias - Combat is the main focus of Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. We have created the Free-Form Fighting System, a new combat system that will bring new meaning to the action-combat genre. The FFF system allows players to get creative in their battles by giving them freedom to destroy and kill enemies with their own style. The Prince will be able to perform many different combos and special attacks. For example, you can now do a grab and you will be able to combine it with throwing an enemy or slicing an enemy in two. You can also rebound or perform a strangulation. The tree of combat is full of possibilities. Also, many elements in the environments will provide players with a variety of new possibilities to execute stunning and deadly moves: swing around a pillar and kill enemies, use ropes, beams, curtains, etc. to rebound and give more strength and velocity to every move.
Then the weapons:
Bertrand Helias - The player will find many different weapons in the game. In fact the prince is now able to use 2 weapons at once and this will give him access to a large variety of attacks. As secondary weapons, the Prince will be able to use swords, axes, maces, daggers and some bonus weapons. Each weapon will have its own particularities giving the Prince several opportunities to kill his opponents. But that?s not all. The environment can be a weapon. In POP: WW, traps can be used against the enemies and it can be really effective in particular occasions. And on top of all of that, players will have the Powers of Time. They will be really powerful and will be a huge part of the combat system. Without them, finishing the game will be ready hard. Finally, we offer a lot of different ways to defeat enemies, it will be up to the players to decide what he wants to use.
Thankfully, some good news on the Time powers as well - they'll be returning!
Bertrand Helias - The Powers of Time will return in PoP: Warrior Within and will be really embedded into the fight system. Rewind will stay similar from PoP:SoT. We have also designed new powers and enhanced former powers to make them much more useful in combat. The Prince will be able to slowdown time while he continues to move at the same speed, helping him to defy speed-limited traps and to fight enemies who will be slow and helpless. The Prince will also be able to travel in time between the Past and the Present.
