Xbox/Xbox Games
MS has released round 1 of the Xbox360 backwards compatibility list (remember, they promised there would be updates to add compatibility with other titles as the console's life goes on).

You can see the list here.

There are a good number of "what the heck" games, which leads me to believe that it's a combination of both a generic emulation engine (for the low-grade ones) and some special-case adaptation (for big names like Halo, that are getting the 720P/FSAA treatment). Barbie? What?

Notables from my collection/past experience:
Crimson Skies?: High Road to Revenge?
Curse: The Eye of Isis
Fable?: The Lost Chapters?
Halo? 2
Hitman: Contracts?
Outlaw Golf 2
Outlaw Volleyball
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time?
Star Wars?: Knights of the Old Republic?
Star Wars? Knights of the Old Republic? II: The Sith Lords?
Thief: Deadly Shadows?
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater? 4
Tony Hawk's Underground 2

Notably MIA:
Legacy of Kain: Defiance
MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf
Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
Outlaw Golf
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within

With only one of the two Prince of Persia titles, this definitely points to their using a generalized emulation layer somewhere.

There's also a nice Q&A about this if you've got the time.
