Final Breakdown

Installation:

Installation went quickly on both the card and speakers: only the problems involved in the SB16 emulation and the question of adding in headphones were able to mar the joy of an uneventful setup.

Price:

For $99.99, the Soubd Blaster Live! Value was a good deal. The FPS2000 speakers at $199.99 weren't too bad either. All in all, $300 on this is a nice investment, especially since the card and speakers should serve well much longer than other components in the computer costing similar amounts.

Performance:

Thesound quality of the card itself can't be questioned, and the speakers only added to the splendor. For quality, nothing could be found to mar this.

Overall:

Ifyou're looking to get something top of the line and run it till it dies, the SBLive! Value and FPS2000 speakers would be a perfect choice. That's why this setup gets a Reviewer's Choice award.

Pluses (+)
  • Wonderful 3D sound in action.
  • Nice update software and new toys from Creative Labs.
  • Minuses (-)
  • Pricey if you already have something halfway similar.
  • Pops occasionally if not in use.
  • No place for a headphone pass or balance on the hand volume control.
