Quake 3 is pretty much the default test for a card's OpenGL performance: for this and the 3DMark tests, I went directly to the 32-bit testing, using Quake 3's highest detail settings, since the idea was to stress the card.

3DMark 2001 was my Direct3D choice for benchmarking; once again, it's the standard setup. I ran 800x600, 1024x768, and 1280x1024 at 16-bit and 32-bit color, with normal and compressed textures.

The Benchmarks show the real strength of the Kyro II; the ability to push higher resolutions at 32-bit color. While at lower resolutions an MX would beat the Kyro II, the constancy -- especially in the 3DMark 2001 benchmark -- shows that the card can handle itself well and will be able to stay around. There are a few disappointments as well, however; it doesn't have hardware T&L, which may make video quality less than ideal in newer games that rely on that feature, like Evolva. The Quake 3 test also showed an important feature of the card, the ability to handle FSAA without serious slowdowns; 70 FPS in Quake 3 is about as fast as anyone realistically needs.
