Final Breakdown

A highly enjoyable game with lots of options, cars, tracks, and variation to back it up. The arcade racing mode is excellent and tons of fun to play, as is the "simulation" mode, despite it being a bit too arcade-ish. Weapons add a lot of variation and uniqueness to the game while not taking away from the game. Championship and other game modes are a lot of fun and should keep most gamers busy for a long time.

While not ground breaking or revolutionary, the graphics provide a nice topping to the package with attractive environments, car models, and explosions. The engine provides that true sense of speeding at 140MPH through rural areas at realistic frame rates without pushing the system too far. There are a few mishaps though, with some textures not being filtered that well, resulting in some pixelation.

Sound and Music:

While most of the sound and music is mediocre, there are some standout pieces. The ambient noises of wolves in the background on the Arizona track is just one of the spectacular effects that is attractive. Otherwise, there is the basic, engine, collision, and explosion sounds from the game and then a typical rock type soundtrack that the player has to listen to while driving.

There is nothing new or special about the multiplayer components of this game. It is almost identical to the single player game in almost every single way. Lag and connection problems aren't very big and should make gaming enjoyable, just trying to find someone to play with can be.

AI and Difficulty:

Solid difficulty settings and AI fill the game for the most part with a nice balance of difficulty. The game isn't too hard but isn't too easy and the dynamic AI option is a nice plus. The only problem is that sometimes the AI tends to cheat a little too much by not giving the player any chance to catch up or even compete in the race because of its seemingly cheating nature.

Controls and Interface:

While the arcade interface is smooth and easy to go with the expert interface really is difficult to move across and sometimes impossible to find anything. Just getting accustomed to it takes about ten minutes. After that, however, it's smooth sailing. The controls and customizing them is no problem and the controllers are very responsive and work well.

This is a very fun and entertaining arcade racing game that will satisfy the needs and demands of any racer. The fast and furious racing action of the game alone make it so much fun to play, add in the cool weapons, and then you've got one hell of a action packed racer here. The various game modes are tons of fun and the added nice graphics package tops the icing on the cake. There are a few problems here and there with the interface and AI, but aside from those few flaws the game is highly enjoyable and fun to play. If you're a fan of arcade racing, check this game out.
