The Transformers line hasn't been a very good place to go for solid, long-running gameplay by any means. Back in the 8-bit and 16-bit days, it wound up the arena of kludged together titles, some just a sprite-swap of foreign games.

The last games in the line were Activision's followups to Michael Bay's two stinker movies, which understandable - as movie tie-ins to abysmal movies that even the fans of the franchise rejected - didn't do very well. So it's no surprise that Activision has decided to try to revive the franchise by switching gears, going back into the storyline, and trying to offer players a "competitive multiplayer" experience in the history of the Autobot/Decepticon Civil War.

Unfortunately for Activision, farming this one out to High Moon Studios didn't quite do the job. What they got back is a generic "online multiplayer" title of the sort that's been done far better by other franchises, stealing bits and pieces of each without managing to make a fun and complete game.
