For a gamer, there are a few overall reactions to a game's new release. Sometimes, you find a sleeper hit and are engrossed in it for days. Sometimes, a long-expected title arrives and blows your mind. Sometimes, you're expecting a mediocre title and are pleasantly surprised. Sometimes, you wind up knowing something's going to be bad, but like watching a train wreck, you can't help but play.

Sometimes, that long-awaited game turns out to be a long-awaited disappointment.

Sadly, Halo Wars is one of those last types. After three installments of the Halo series, a series of novels, and an ever-richer look into the history of the Halo universe, Halo Wars proves that perhaps, just perhaps, Halo should be left in the hands of Bungie.
