For fans of the turn-based console RPG, the past few years have been much like the time leading up to the original Wild Arms release by Sony - a lack of interest in the genre by many publishers, old publishers trying new tricks (the Final Fantasy and Bioware "real-time" styles), and a few gamers even being willing to declare the death of turn-based play altogether.

Fortunately, genre fans can still pick up titles with a lot of fun gameplay. When XSeed picked up the Wild Arms series with its 4th title, the alterations to the game were intriguing. Wild Arms 5 picks up where they left off, refining their idea of a turn-based combat further, improving the HEX battle system, and offering fans and newcomers alike a fun title. Will it be all you play for years? Probably not, but it's well worth having and enjoying.
