One of the great unexplored ideas for video
games has been the potential health benefits of more active games. Nintendo
briefly explored the idea with a track & field title on the NES, and Konami's
Dance Dance Revolution series has been lauded for its physical activity
requirements, but they are side benefits; a game designed fully around the
concept of physical fitness was only a pipe dream until responDESIGN put out
Yourself! Fitness a few months ago.
It should be noted that Yourself! Fitness
isn't necessarily a game, at least not like a traditional game. It's more of
an improvement on the old workout video idea, an expanded and highly
intelligent format designed for much the same goals, but escaping many of the
traditional complaints and offering some added bonuses.
Is it worth it? For gamers who've wanted to
lose a few pounds, or stay in shape, or who can't take the traditional workout
methods, most definitely. My personal experience has been wonderful so far,
and shows no sign of stopping. |
