Final Breakdown

The elements of space combat couldn't be done much better than the Alliance engine. It's one way to really feel like you've gotten into the Star Wars universe. Special mention goes to the big freighters, which handle (for once) like a bulky freighter.

Not much could go wrong with Lucasarts handling graphics quality. The only problem is the backgrounds, in particular that big ugly pixelation that's supposed to be the second Death Star.

Sound and Music:

Greatin-game sounds, wingman responses, and musical score. Bad vocal standins for the famous personalities like Lando and Luke.

AI and Difficulty:

This is a great part of the game. While predictable, the AI is enough to give a challenge to anyone.

Controls and Interface:

Lots of buttons and in-flight menus make it tricky, but everything falls into place as it should. The learning curve is a little higher than some games but about right for a simulator.

It has the Star Wars feel all over it, and can hold its own with any simulation around.

Pluses (+)
  • Great graphics detail on ships.
  • Absolutely gorgeous music.
  • Excellent multiplayer options.
  • Good plot.
  • Minuses (-)
  • Bad voice doubles.
  • Detailed on controls.
