Games
based on a movie title are one of those things we've come to expect, and
somewhat dread, in the gaming community. Oftentimes they're hackneyed,
"Interactive" versions of the movie, where players are railroaded
through "playable" sections only to watch movie cutscenes as a reward.
Other
times, they have almost nothing to do with the movie, or are simply so rushed
that they make little sense.
Thankfully,
Shrek 2 is not one of those games. It does run into the problem of being
somewhat childish and aimed at the 5-to-12 market, but within that it's a lot of
fun. It's full to the brim with jokes that would make the creators of the Shrek
franchise proud, pop culture references, storybook humor, and generally
everything that makes the movie fun. The only thing it lacks is staying power
for the adult mind, something that younger players likely won't notice.
