Final Breakdown

While the game does offer one very innovative and unique combat system that is something to be very interested in and something to play around with for a while, the rest of the game leaves a lot to be desired. A lot of the game seems to be incomplete and just missing some quests at points in the game, NPC characters that seem to be ment to join Locke in his quest never join, the storyline is less than stellar, and most puzzles are boring and uninspired. But there is a lot of hack and slash action to be enjoyed. The added map editor with lots of level designers out there is an added plus.

Probably the best feature of the game, the dynamic lighting effects, special spell effects, animations, models, and most textures all look very good. With a little help from 3D Acceleration, the lighting effects look even better, but there are a few poor looking textures and poor animations.

Sound and Music:

While filling the air with some fairly accurate sounds, most of the sound effects don't fulfill the role that they were set out to be. Mainly just crunching and smashing sounds fill the air with some bland music. The worst part is the horrible voice acting of uninspired actors.

Lacking any real multiplayer game, Revenant really fails to deliver the necessities to become a very good multiplayer game only sporting a deathmatch feature that is so bug ridden that it isn't even worth messing around with. Fortunately, there is a patch that resolves many of these issues.

AI and Difficulty:

For the most part, the game provides a decent challenge most people should be able to play with for a while. Sometimes the game can be extremely frustrating with extremely unbalanced power between enemies, however. The enemy AI sometimes is impressive, but for the most part it is quite dumb and doesn't do much in terms of challenge.

Controls and Interface:

While controlling the character, moving around the world and engaging in combat is quite painless if controlled with a gamepad, the same cannot be said about keyboard/mouse control. The interface, while decent, doesn't offer many of the polishes and steamlined features that Darkstone gives. Often, maintaining and controlling the inventory can become such a mess it isn't even worth messing with.

This game really left me wanting more. It feels a lot like an empty and incomplete game that really falls short of what it was aimed for. I just suppose if the development team had a few more weeks to flat pan out some bugs and add some more features they were aiming for it could have been a rock solid game, but as it stands the game really disappoints on a huge level.
