Final Breakdown

Gameplay:

Quite fun game, with all of its variety, but the major downfalls are in the season mode where players cannot initiate smart trades with computer opponents, and lack of career mode, and the unbalanced gameplay between the passing and running game.

Graphics:

Easily some of the best looking graphics in the sports arena today. The game offers a ton of different animations, solid player models, and great looking stadiums. What more could be asked for? The only slight problem is with the getting up animation and some clipping.

Sound and Music:

While nothing special, the sound effects are pretty common, the play-by-play and color commentator add a bit of excitement and realism to the game giving analytical statistics to the game.

Multiplayer:

No real advances in multiplayer with console like same computer action.

AI and Difficulty:

While the AI is very sharp and well done like the growing or learning AI, the super hard and strong AI just kills gameplay balance on the higher difficulty levels.

Controls and Interface:

Nothing really great, just simple control using a gamepad and pretty simply configured. Small grip on how buttons need to be switched totally swapped with another button. The interface is clean and easy to use, but games could be simulated a bit faster.

Overall:

An alright and decent game to play, has rock solid fun to be had, but the unbalanced gameplay is a killer. Wait out for Madden 2000 before going out and making a purchase of either game. But of course, the $19.99 price tag on this game really makes it attractive to buy.
